13 September 2018 - Grand Duchy of Flandrensis - Two days ago, Niels Vermeersch (aka Niels de Saint Gilliens, Niels van Flandrensis) is the founder and the first (and only) head of state of the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis, announced that the private emails of nearly 500 of it's citizens were compromised. The breach occurred when an email was sent out to its citizens regarding a football team shirt. In the email, was the email addresses of all of its citizens.
So, CBN done some investigating. Just how secure are the citizens private information. We have learned that the official website of Flandrensis is not a secure website. The browser bar at the top even says so.
If the website is not secure, what information is being collected? We found that the site collects the following information:
- First & last name
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- City
and last but not least, email.
"If a website is not secure, don't give it your personal data." said Director Gordon Mitchell, head of Boshka Cyber Security. When asked how to protect yourself and tell weather or not a site is secure, he said the following:
There are two simple ways to ensure you are on a secure website.
1.) Look at the web address in your browser, make sure the web address starts with https://
2.) Look for a closed padlock in your web browser. When you click on the padlock you should see a message that states the name of the company and that “The connection to the server is encrypted”.
