EAST CITY, BELPESSA — Once known primarily for its serene lakeside charm and agricultural heritage, East City is quickly earning a new reputation: economic powerhouse of the province.
Located on the eastern edge of Belpessa, East City has undergone a quiet but powerful transformation over the past five years, shifting from a modest farming hub to a diversified local economy anchored by sustainable manufacturing, green technology, and cooperative enterprise.
“People used to think of East City as a place you passed through,” said Mayor Alesa Niro. “Now it’s a place where people are investing, hiring, and staying.”
The economic turnaround began in 2020 when the East City Development Board launched the Belpessa Forward Initiative, aimed at attracting eco-focused industries and providing incentives for small business development. The town's centerpiece became the Greenloop Industrial Park — a fully carbon-neutral business zone that now houses ten companies specializing in biodegradable materials, drone-based agriculture, and modular construction.
In the last fiscal year alone, East City saw a 26% increase in local employment, with job creation primarily in skilled trades, logistics, and tech-enabled farming. Local exports — once limited to dairy and handcrafts — now include solar infrastructure components and lab-grown building materials used throughout Boshka.
The town’s proximity to both Lake Vienta and the Capital City highland rail line has also turned it into a key logistical stop in the province’s supply chain, allowing goods to move efficiently while keeping freight emissions low.
“You’ve got strategic location, local talent, and a culture of innovation,” said Mila Korav, CEO of Solterra Panels, which opened its regional factory in East City last year. “It’s the perfect storm for clean industry.”
At the heart of East City’s approach is its people. The town has heavily invested in vocational training and small business mentorship, particularly for youth and women. Programs like StartSmart East, a cooperative grant program launched in 2023, have helped launch over 40 new local enterprises — from artisan textile startups to AI-assisted irrigation services.
Despite its rapid growth, the town remains committed to sustainable development. “Every decision we make ties back to long-term stability,” said Economic Affairs Director Joren Bel. “We don’t want boom-and-bust cycles — we want lasting opportunity.”
Today, East City is seen as a model for how smaller communities in the Commonwealth of Boshka can thrive without sacrificing character. The town's economy is rooted in collaboration, resilience, and a forward-thinking mindset that balances prosperity with preservation.
“We’re proving that a small town can lead big,” said Mayor Niro. “And we’re just getting started.”
